Our studio is looking for a positive and dedicated full team for Calgary, one photographer team and one videographer team.

Position Overview:
  • As a team member for our studio, enthusiasm, superb customer service skills, and being a team player is key.
  • A high degree of creativity paired with a strong understanding of image composition, technical lighting, and video technology is an asset.
  • Also having the ability to handle details with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency is required.
  • This is a growing part of our studio and we are looking for individuals that want to have the opportunity to be at the forefront of building an industry-leading wedding and portrait photography studio.
  • A vehicle is required to travel to different destinations.
A little bit about us:
We are a growing business that requires an individual that can thrive in a fast-paced environment. We are a small team with big dreams of growing our studio into not only a widely known hub of photography but a teaching studio for other budding photographers. Since we have a small team with large dreams, it is important to find the key individual for this position that fits in with our culture and the key individual for this position not only fits in with our culture but is willing to work hard and help push us to new heights by providing new ideas and insights.

PREFERRED CANDIDATE:
  • The ideal candidate for this position would be someone looking to grow into one of our studios for full-time portrait or wedding videographers.
  • The learning curve for this position is 1-4 months (but that depends on your current skill level) as this position requires a solid understanding of our studio methodology and approach to videographing weddings and events.
  • Must have a car and a valid license. Shoots may take place outside the Calgary area, such as Canmore and Banff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • (will include, but not limited to)
  • Acute adherence to the studio’s brand and brand experience.
  • Managing your equipment and helping with the primary setup and takedown from an event.
  • Other duties are required.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The following is a list of the skills we would like you to be able to demonstrate.
  • Punctual.

  • Self-starter, quick learner, and critical thinker.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong command of the English language both written and verbal.
  • Experience managing high-value clients and their expectations.
  • Have a professional attitude towards clients and other professionals.
  • Proven video experience, specifically related to weddings and events.
  • Current knowledge of the latest video trends, and technology.
  • Ability to break down complex situations or problems.
  • Ability to deliver positive, solution-based responses to customer inquiries.
  • Ability to work with a high level of discretion and be able to work independently.
  • Ability to work systematically from a very detailed pre-defined process workflow without missing steps or details.
  • An understanding of photo terminology is an asset.
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
  • While the following list would be nice for someone, we are willing to work with the right individual even if they don’t yet.
  • have all the necessary gear.
  • The following is a list of what you would most likely eventually need.
  • Have your reliable transportation (Must have this) if no car then transportation fees are on your own and will not be reimbursed by the Studio.
Videographers need Full frame 4k video cameras (not still cameras), ideally equivalent to black magic design cameras (Must have this) and the below lens recommendations
Photographers require Full frame (crop sensor ok to start) with the following lens recommendations
24-70mm or 24-105mm lens
70-200mm lens
~70-300mm lens
35mm, 50mm or 85mm prime lens
Fluid head tripod for videography or equivalents, fast focus lenses required
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • While I strongly believe that the right attitude and mindset are the most important part of being successful in this position having the listed experience below is an asset.
  • Videography Experience – 6 months to 1 year of experience.
  • Having Photography experience is a bonus as we can offer both positions as they come up.
WORKING HOURS & COMPENSATION
  • Work Hours: Minimum 1.5 hours for every event.
  • Type: Contract work.
  • Work Days: Monday to Sunday, usually Saturday.
  • Contracted Hours: Min of 1.5 hrs and a Max of 12hrs per project day.
  • Compensation: $37.5-$600/day (Varies depending on primary or secondary position and the booked job)

INTERVIEW & HIRING PROCESS:
The hiring process will be conducted in three rounds.

Round 1: Application
  • You must submit a cover letter, resume and professional portfolio of your work.
  • In your cover letter, please tell me a little about yourself and why you are unique.
  • Please also use the words
  • ATTENTION to DETAIL as I have written it.
  • Please provide a PDF or a website portfolio of your 5 best shots or video reels.
  • Each application will be reviewed by the Jason Rout Photography studio's team and a selection of applicants will be chosen to move on to the next round.
Round 2: Phone Interview
  • For the phone interview, only the successful candidates will be contacted.
  • The phone interview will be mostly behavioural and lets us get to know you a little better!
  • We will also go over your photography background.
Round 3: Zoom interview
  • This round will be a Zoom interview to review more details with the studio owner Jason Rout.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
  • For Calgary Studios, you MUST live in Calgary, Canmore or Banff as we service all three locations or the surrounding area and be able to commute.
For Calgary, Canmore, and Banff:
  • 1 Primary photography position open.
  • 1 Secondary photography position open.
  • 1 Primary videography position open.
  • 1 Secondary videography position open.
